Local nonprofit health and wellness organizations, “Eppie’s Great Race,” and “Nicolas’ Garden,” are partnering to present a children’s health and wellness event with a, “Farm-to-Fork” family fun focus, incorporating entertainment, and educational, hands-on health, nutrition and fitness activities, as well as the ninth annual Eppie’s Kids Duathlon (running and cycling) event, into a fun day of wellness for the entire family in Sacramento’s Discovery Park, on Saturday, May 17, 2014.
All attendees that participate in the events and complete physical activity stations (presented by California State University, Sacramento Kinesiology students), can earn their national, “President’s Challenge” Fitness Patch and Certificate from the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition. Children in age brackets from 4 to 14 years, are invited to run and cycle on special courses around Sacramento’s Discovery Park and the American River Parkway during the Eppie’s Kids Duathlon. The new course sites will allow parents and friends to watch and cheer on their kid competitors throughout the races. As soon as the competitors cross the finish line, the whole family will enjoy fun, hands-on cooking and gardening activities, fitness obstacle courses, bounce houses and climbing walls, free health screenings, food and entertainment, among others. The participants are also invited to complete other fun, fitness stations, and then leave the event with their “President’s Challenge” Fitness Patch and Certificate.
At the event, all attending children and families will be encouraged to learn more about growing and gardening, as well as cooking easy, healthy meals with Sacramento Celebrity Chef and Entrepreneur Nicolas Come, inventor of the, “Nicolas’ Garden” Mobile App and digital platform.
